The Alfred Lee Loomis Institute of Science and Electronics is named in honor of Alfred Lee Loomis (1887–1975), an American scientist, inventor, lawyer, financier, and philanthropist whose extraordinary contributions helped shape twentieth-century science and technology.
Although trained as a lawyer, Loomis possessed a lifelong passion for physics, electronics, mathematics, and engineering. After achieving financial success in business and investments, he devoted much of his life and personal fortune to scientific research, creating one of the most influential private research laboratories in American history.
